Do you ever feel like you're carrying around energy that doesn’t even belong to you?
You're not imagining it.
If you’re highly sensitive (like me), you’ve probably picked up emotions, stress, and mental clutter from the people around you — and it can get heavy fast.
For most of my life, I’ve experienced underlying anxiety much of the time. Not just the kind that comes and goes, but the kind that lives in your chest, changes your breathing, and makes your thoughts race without warning.
It wasn’t until I started connecting with my intuition and leaning into energetic practices that I began to really understand what was happening.
And one of the biggest breakthroughs for me came when I discovered breathwork.
Let me back up for a second. I've always been deeply intuitive, but for years, I didn’t have the language or tools to use that gift — let alone protect myself from the emotional noise of the world around me.
Being so energetically sensitive made everyday situations feel overwhelming. Crowded places, tense conversations, even scrolling social media — all of it would leave me feeling emotionally drained and mentally cluttered.
It felt like I was constantly trying to hold my center while getting pulled in a million directions.
That's when I started looking for tools. Real ones. Not just surface-level self-care tips, but deep, soul-led practices that could help me release what wasn’t mine and reconnect with my truth.
Enter: breathwork.
Breathwork isn’t just about relaxing (although it can be deeply calming). It’s about using the breath as a tool to physically and energetically release stored emotions, shift your nervous system, and drop into the part of you that knows exactly what you need — your soul.
It’s helped me:
But more than anything, breathwork has helped me remember who I really am.
Every time I use it intentionally, I connect more deeply with:
Breathwork brings me back into alignment with all of it.
But I’ll be real with you — breathwork is work. It takes presence. It takes intention. And sometimes it brings up emotions I didn’t know I was holding onto.
But that’s what makes it so powerful.
Every time I finish a session, I feel lighter. I feel clear. And most importantly, I feel like myself again!
If you're just starting your intuitive journey and wondering how to protect your energy or stop feeling like an emotional sponge, breathwork is one of the most powerful tools I can recommend.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Create a quiet space.
You don’t need a meditation room, just a calm space where you can be uninterrupted for 10-15 minutes.
I recommend lying down on your bed, couch or the floor. Have lip balm and a large glass of water near you. Find a breathwork playlist if music will help you get into a flow state.
2. Start with simple breath patterns.
You don’t need to dive into advanced techniques right away. Try a 4-4-4-4 box breath (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4) to reset your nervous system.
Use your breath intentionally. Visualize the breath moving through your body, clearing stuck emotions and energetic residue. See it as light moving through shadow.
3. Set a soul-centered intention.
What do you want to release? What do you want to feel more of? Anchor into that before you begin.
4. Journal after your session.
Let your soul speak. What came through? What did you notice?
Breathwork is one piece of the puzzle when it comes to reconnecting with your inner wisdom and protecting your peace.
