Summer has always been special to me.

But this year? It feels different. It feels important.

I’m 38 years old right now — and if you’re doing the math like I am, that means I have just two summers left in my 30s.

And honestly? I’ve loved this decade of my life more than any other.

The growth, the confidence, the deeper sense of who I am.

I’m not afraid of turning 40 — not at all — but I am determined to savor every second of these final 30-something summers.

Especially because I live in the Midwest, where summer isn’t just a season — it’s a full-on experience.
The long, warm nights. The sparkling lakes. The feeling of freedom in the air after a long winter.

This summer, I don’t want to just go through the motions. I want to create something unforgettable.

And you can too.

Step 1: Trust Your Inner Compass

Before you fill your calendar with vacations, BBQs, and to-dos, pause for a minute.

Ask yourself:

✨ What would actually make this the best summer of my life?
✨ What am I craving more of right now?

Not what you think you should do.
Not what everyone else is doing.
What you actually want.

This is your intuition speaking — that gut feeling that knows exactly what you need even if you can't explain it yet.

Listen to it. Trust it.

It’s trying to lead you somewhere amazing.

Step 2: Focus on Feeling Good First

One thing I’ve learned (and re-learned) is that energy matters more than plans.

When you feel good — when you’re genuinely excited, open, and lit up — life meets you there.

Opportunities find you.
People are drawn to you.
The right moments seem to unfold naturally.


That’s why I’m making feeling good my number one goal this summer.

For me, that looks like:

✨Spending time with people who lift me up
✨Saying "yes" to more spontaneous adventures
✨Moving my body in ways that make me feel alive (walks, dance, hiking)
✨Letting myself slow down and actually enjoy the little things

You don’t have to be perfect.

​You just have to make feeling good your starting point — not the reward you only give yourself after you’ve checked all the boxes.

Step 3: Create Experiences You’ll Remember

Instead of getting caught up in chasing "goals" this summer, focus on creating experiences.

Ask yourself:

✨What are the memories I want to look back on?
✨What stories do I want to tell about this summer?
✨How do I want to feel when the season is over?

Because truthfully?

When we’re older, we won’t remember how many boxes we checked off a to-do list.

We’ll remember the sunset boat rides.
The long conversations on porches.
The new friends we met when we said "yes" instead of staying home.

Give yourself permission to live the good stuff now.

Step 4: Stay Awake to the Magic

This might be the most important thing.

It’s so easy to let a whole summer fly by because we’re rushing, planning, or distracted.

But the best moments usually aren’t the ones you schedule. They’re the ones that sneak up on you when you’re really there — present, open, alive.

This summer, I’m slowing down enough to notice:

✨The way the sky glows pink at 8:30 PM
✨The feeling of bare feet on warm grass
✨The sound of a song that instantly lifts my mood
✨The laughter that comes out of nowhere and fills the whole room

These aren’t little things. They’re everything.

And the more you notice them, the more you naturally attract even more good things.
